Electrode Cap Changer

The electrode cap changer permits the friction-less, automated change of used resistance spot welding electrodes.

The electrode cap changer permits caps to be changed without any force being applied to the electrode shaft or the spot welding gun. This means that, as there is practically no wear and tear on the electrode shaft, it will not normally need to be changed any more. The use of the electrode cap changer leads to an increase in system availability, due to the automated electrode cap change-over. The fact that it is no longer necessary to change the shaft reduces the maintenance and running costs of the welding gun.

Requirements for changing the electrode cap

  • Distance between electrode cap and electrode shaft: 3 - 5 mm
  • Minimum welding gun opening between the electrode caps: 50 mm

Time needed to change electrode cap

  • 15-30 seconds

Fields of application
A stationary cap changer is supplied for robot-controlled spot welding guns. For stationary welding guns, a roboter-controlled electrode cap changer is supplied, and this can be permanently attached or undocked, depending on the customer's wishes.
At all events, a linear slider removes the electrode caps by inserting itself between the electrode cap and thrust collar of the electrode shaft.

Electrode cap magazines
are successfully used for standard electrode caps F16 – F20, as are various special symmetrical and asymmetrical types (e.g. eccentric caps).
